AWARDS
Last year I started an award category for clips that managed to be emotionally affecting in the brief span of three minutes. I'm going to go ahead and call the award the Jessie, after Christa's clip from TOY STORY 2, charting Jessie the Cowgirl doll's transition from beloved playmate to Goodwill discard. The Jessie may not be handed out every year, but we've now got a clip that sets the standard.
Mike reclaims the award for What the Hell Was That? with the stark, black and white restroom musical number "Hey Boy" from THE AMERICAN ASTRONAUT.
In the past I've recognized individuals for "Best Clip Selection", for those who displayed strong taste over two (or more) clips. We'll refine that this year, however, to recognize running themes in a person's clip choices. The Best Motif award goes to Jim, who brought three clips on the theme of trouble and dogs. Perhaps I'll call the award the "Baxter." And I'll be phasing out the BEST CLIP award, since that was based on my own, spurious tastes anyhow (although, okay, this year it would have gone to Paul for the opening of TITUS).
The Audience Award went to the "Breakfast Machine" from PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, which, so what if it was I that brought it? The host can be eligible for the Audience Award too...
